Representing goodwill and friendship between Chinese and American people, Willy Wang’s bronze sculpture, Confucius, was dedicated on September 26, 2009, on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. The sculpture also commemorates the 2,560th anniversary of Confucius’s birth. Confucius is considered one of the most important figures in history. His teachings about moral responsibility, justice, and kindness, known as Confucianism, are still relevant today. The Confucius sculpture is located in the Rose Garden in Hermann Park. It is one of many important works of art Wang created during the decades he made Houston his home.
